I’m Deborah, nice to meet you!
I have always loved the visual arts. I have loved photography since my first class in black and white photography in high school. In undergraduate school I studied liberal arts with a major in painting. I also studied painting in Aix en Provence in the South of France, where we took our easels outside to capture the beautiful light in the towns where Cezanne and Van Gogh had lived and painted. For graduate school at Pratt Institute in Brooklyn, NY, I concentrated on photography and received a Master of Fine Arts in Photography. My graduate thesis show was black and white photographs, all taken candidly in street photography genre of people at the beach in the NY area and NJ. My inspiration was the work of Henri Cartier Bresson and Helen Levitt.
After graduating, I apprenticed a fashion photographer in NYC, and also had column along with a reporter for a local Upper West Side Newspaper covering celebrity events in the city. I also freelanced photographing for model’s portfolios.
Moving up to Fairfield County, CT, I wanted to continue my career in photographing, so I introduced myself to the owners of several local wedding venues and began photographing weddings. I have loved getting to know my brides and grooms, and am thrilled that even years later when they see me, they tell how much they love their wedding photos!
I have now been a wedding photographer for over 20 years, and still enjoying it as much as ever. I take pride in my ability to put my subjects at ease with gentle prompting for posing so that they look completely comfortable and natural, yet flattering. My assistants and I make the whole process fun and you will know that we bring out the best in our brides and grooms, families and guests and capture the romantic and fun moments, as well as the touching and emotional!
I love keeping in touch with my brides and grooms and photographing other wonderful occasions in their lives, such as a new baby! I also love running into couples years later who tell me that they are still enjoying their beautiful wedding album!
